Engaging Community by Engaging Researchers: PCOR in Action
Traditional academic research can reenact and reinforce stigma and power imbalances, even unintentionally, this limits the ability of certain groups to participate meaningfully in research. Institutions need to rethink how to approach this problem of reaching specific communities around research. It is critical that research teams not only get creative about ways of reaching, engaging, and reimbursing participants, but also find ways to come together with communities to create, identify, and disseminate resources to those most in need. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference.
